Virginia's health insurance programs for children are very much programs in flux. There are
changes that occur to the one or both of these programs on an annual basis (changes in financial
eligibility based on the Federal Poverty Level changes) and on an ongoing basis (addition of
managed care providers, etc.) This section is where you can find this updated information.

Program Updates:

Income Guidelines Change
On January 23, 2008 the United States Department of Health
and Human Services announced the 2008 Poverty Guidelines.
As a result, the income eligibility guidelines for the
FAMIS Programs and Medicaid were adjusted in Virginia. The
new income guidelines can be seen
here.
It should be noted that any application processed
by a local DSS or the FAMIS Central Processing unit on or
after January 23, 2008 will be evaluated under
these new income
guidelines, even if the application was received
prior to January 23,2008.

Income Guidelines for FAMIS MOMS and Coverage
for
Substance Abuse Services
DMAS will begin
reimbursement for substance abuse treatment services for
adults and children in Medicaid/FAMIS Plus. The services
included are: assessment and evaluation, crisis
intervention, case management, outpatient treatment,
intensive outpatient treatment, day treatment, and
opioid treatment for adults and children. Pregnant Women
in FAMIS MOMS and Medicaid for Pregnant Women and
children in FAMIS already had these benefits.
